okay lovies, i need some hair care suggestions!
i have to admit that on my last store run, i went for the cheap bottle of salon selectives. It was a jumbo size bottle with a pump for $3. $3!
Maybe it would work for "normal healthy" hair but my thick hair tends to be like my skin-- a combination of oily & dry. ugh. i think in this case, i got what i paid for. *please know that if you use this as your hair routine, i'm incredibly jealous that i can't cos my hair is so brittle :) i'm in no way insulting you or the product!*
i'm usually a herbal essence kind of gal, but before i purchase another set i thought i'd ask what you used.
So tell me, what's the best brand of shampoo/conditioner at the drug store? or if you splurge a little more, what brand do you swear by?

That pic just made my day. How gorg was he?
Wow, that is a hot picture of Elvis!!
I've been using sulfate-free shampoo since I started getting Brazilian blowouts. I used to pay an arm and a leg for them, but recently I've discovered a sulfate-free brand at Target that I really like! It's Organics, and I've been buying the coconut scent. Yum!
I really like Redken, but that's pricy. My roommate uses TreSemme, and I've used it here and there when I've run out, and it smells great and is an amazing detangler. I might start using that . . . since I have to reign in my spending, and I'm not getting Brazilian blowouts anymore.
Your hair is beautiful!
I'm always a fan of Aveda products given they are organic and made with natural supplements and no harsh chemicals. A little goes a long way and I have a lot of hair (although short). I've been using it consistently since October and have no regrets. I too was buying bargain stuff and my hair paid for it. If you have a little extra cash in your wallet, I suggest anything Aveda.
don't be jealous. i'd rather pay a little more for nice shampoo than get to use cheap shampoo and have my flat-straight-will do nothing hair. you know what they say. the grass (hair) is always greener. or something.
I really like L'Oreal's sulfate free shampoos. They smell minty and nice and make your hair feel great.
I have been using Organix sulfate free (I use the coconut and shea shampoo and the acai conditioner) shampoo/conditioner as well.. I like it *a lot* but when my hair is wet from the shower it doesn't feel as soft as it usually did, and it bugs me. So if you're weird like me then you might not like that brand.
my number one hair product for nice hair is Organix Moroccan oil. It is about $4-6 a bottle and a little goes a longggg way! It smells great and makes your hair look and feel amazing. I swear by it. A lot of salon sell Moroccan oil for $12 for a .5 oz bottle and up, and this stuff is just the same, I swear!
I love the Organix line too. My favorite it the teatree Mint. I also use Morrocan Oil in my hair before I blow dry.
Oh, handsome man in shower! *swoon* When I'm looking for something cheap, I like Suave. I only recently started using it because my hairdress (and my sis) told me it's the best cheap stuff you can buy. And you know? They didn't lie! But if I'm going to splurge a little, I like Amplify (have been using it since I was a young teen) and Biolage.
By the way, my hair is something between frizzy and oily. I've been told I have very fine strands, but LOTS of them so it's kinda thick... in a way. Crazy.
great wtkyw topic!
i love anything by aveda too. it's a bit pricier but not expensive and you don't have to wear perfume because your hair will smell soooooo pretty!
i also think you don't use it as much so it ends up costing the same amount.
your blog is soo good. love.
I swear on my life by O&M it just launched in the states I think....
The shampoo smells like marshmallow dream land. The treatment - 7 day miracle is awesome.
But it's not cheap... Though I am on one bottle for the last year... so maybe it is value for money.... who knows - it just smells good!!
In saying all this, your hair always looks freaking amazing and perfect - so you really should just keep going with what you are doing :)
Aveeno has great hair products that I LOVE.
Aveda, if you feel like splurging! They have some FABULOUS Rosemary mint shampoo - totally worth every penny!
i like my herbal essences. and i realllly liked the kind i used to buy at the salon, but i can't remember the name of it now! :| much like getting my hair cut & colored, it got too expensive. now i just cut my own hair & stick w/ the herbal essences. good luck w/ your shampoo search!!
oh yeah - and ELVIS!!!! mmmmm! : )
If you're looking for an inexpensive go-to, Wal-Mart sells a brand called Simply You (or U?... I forget!). I stayed overnight at my in-laws for Christmas and forgot my shampoo and conditioner, and that's what she had in her guest shower. It rocked. Freaked me out at first because the shampoo doesn't lather much, but I air dried and then flat ironed my hair... it hasn't felt that silky in foreverrr. It's like $3-4 a bottle too!
I use Tresseme conditioner and pantene shampoo. I also usually use a leave in conditioning spray from John Frieda once or twice a week. It's a great detangler and keeps my hair from breaking as much.
I use the Organix brand too, its sulfate free, which is supposed to be better for your hair and not rid it of its natural oils & make it dry. Just be aware that it doesnt later. I've switched around most of the different kinds, but the moroccan oil one is my fav so far. They also have the treatment that I put on after I shower & it makes my hair feel nice and doesnt get greasy throughout the day. It can be pricier than normal brands, but you can usually find deals on it anywhere (buy one get one free, or buy one get one half off). I've seen it in most drug stores, target, grocery stores, and BBB. Love it!
I recently started splurging on Nexxus Humectress moisturizing shampoo/conditioner because my hair started feeling very brittle - but mine is from so much coloring!
It's much more expensive (like $11-$13 per bottle) but it smells fantastic, and the results are SOOOOOOOOOOO worth it. My hair feels like silk now, and i love it.
btw, I saw that you can buy the HUGE bottles of this very shampoo/conditioner at COSTCO, in case you don't like making frequent visits to the drugstore. :)
Infusium is a brand that can be found at most drug stores. Back in the day it was only sold at salons, and from what I can tell, the product sold at drug stores is not a watered down version. I have very thick, very combo hair and it works amazingly well! :)
p.s. That Elvis picture made my evening!! LOVE LOVE LOVE him....and I have a lot of him on vinyl. :)
I was reading intently and was thinking about what this little kiwi girl could advise you. And then you had to go and ruin my train of thought by putting the most gorgeous man in the world in the shower on your blog didnt you? I mean come on! How is a girl meant to concentrate when there is all that sexy naked man action going on?
I use a brand called K by Kevin Murphy. I think it's an Australian brand though. I can't use most hair products, because they weigh my hair down, this is the first brand I've found that actually washes out of my hair and doesn't weigh it down!
