Wanting to Know you Wens.

The other day a message thread popped into my facebook inbox reminding me that my 10 year high school reunion was just around the corner. The two day event is in November (a month after i will have given birth to my first baby) and I feel a little weird about it all. I know a lot of it is because i can't believe it's been ten whole years.

Since I live out of town and will have a newborn baby to be caring for (!!! sorry, it still hits me at odd times), I dismissed the thought of actually going right away-- as soon as I saw the email. But then part of me wondered if i would regret it? (the other part of me reminded me i could just as well go to any of the two bars in town on a Friday night and it would very much be like said reunion)

Since i still have time to think about it, i wanted to hear your experiences.

high school me signing yearbooks. didn't you just love yearbook day? look how short my hair was!

Did you go to your 10 year high school reunion?
If you didn't, why didn't you?

& if you still have a few years to think about it, do you think you'll be attending yours?

+ i loved reading these answers to this wanting to know you question, related to high school

Gosh I guess if we had them, mine would be around now too, I wouldn't go though, I had the worst time in high school and the idea of seeing most of the people again makes me feel ill (still, after so long). My whole life changed when I went to college straight after and met Thomas so I'm more than happy to focus on that and all the amazing friends that I've made since.

(Though the idea of suddenly being the cool kid if I went back, like in Dexter, is pretty appealing, I doubt that would happen though haha)

Rhianne, i thought of Dexter as I was writing this post - in fact, Hammer Time was going through my head ;) ha awww, i would have TOTALLY wanted to sit at your lunch table. :)

I personally think high school reunions are overrated, but that's just based on my experience. I think it's different for everyone. There are a few people I wouldn't mind seeing again, but most of my high school time is forgettable. I'm probably better off not reliving those times.

However, I do agree with Rhianne with the whole "Dexter is the cool kid" theory. It'd be fun to show people who wrote me off in high school that I actually did something with my life, unlike most of them.

Bottom line, it sounds like you had fun in high school, and I bet you'd enjoy seeing everyone again. :)

If you'd asked me 5 years ago I would've said that I was definitely going to my reunion. BUT, my reunion was last summer and I did not go. When it came down to it I just realized I didn't care. And in the age of Facebook I keep up with everyone I'd want to see. I don't regret not going. Also, the cost was like $80 per person which just seemed outrageous! Facebook is FREE! haha

I'm a new reader by the way!

i went to my 10 year and i decided so at the last minute, i was pretty strong against going from the get go. mainly because the whole, i keep in touch with who i want to already, im not on facebook for a reason, etc. but it was really fun! but a lot of people weren't there, like a lot. plus other than seeing who had kids and what not, people weren't that different!! i think the 20 year will be more interesting :)

I'm in college now, so I have plenty of time to decide. My high school actually has a five year reunion, so that's even sooner. I can't decide if I will or not. On one hand, I didn't enjoy high school too much and all the people I care about I see or talk to pretty regularly. But, on the other hand, it would be really interesting to see what everyone has been up to, where they work, if they are married/ have kids. Hmmm.... I don't know!!

I ended up with the task of planning mine, since I moved back to my hometown and always seem to be the one organzing things for the class for other reasons (donations for funerals of classmates or parents of classmates, etc.) I had a great day at the lake planned, complete with picnic and fun games for adults and kids to play- and then a monsoon came and the pavilion area I had reserved was under water. Luckily, a classmate's mother offered her large house and we moved the cookout there- and the rain stopped long enough for us to actually hang out outside. It ended up being very simple, and only 13 of our 34 classmates attended- but by the end I was just glad it was over. I will attend a 15 or a 20 year, but mark my words now: I will NOT be the one doing the planning!
My advice? Go. Even though I know a trip to Toby's pretty much suffices as a reunion, you'll be glad you went. And the chance to see your classmates' kiddos is priceless.

First of all, is that picture from when you were in high school? If so, you still SERIOUSLY look the same and I am jealous.

Secondly, I feel SOOOO OLD because my 20 year high school reunion will be next year. OH MY! I paid to attend my 10 year but never went. Why? Because in the end, I really didn't care to see anyone, I wasn't working at the time because of a back injury and I felt like a loser and lastly, it appeared (from Facebook) everyone was married with kids besides me. So I passed. I may consider going to the my 20 year. Time will tell!

I won't ever have a class reunion because I was homeschooled, but I attended my husband's 10-year and we agreed that it was fairly lame. We "double dated" to the reunion with one of his best friends, who was also his classmate, and his wife. They also agreed that most people who attended were not people they would normally choose to hang out with. All of their good friends still keep in touch and most of them didn't attend the reunion.

I went to my 10 year HS reunion and it was a blast. I was hesitant about going (and this was before we could all stalk each other on FB), but made the decision at the last minute to go and I am so glad I did!

I encourage you to attend!

My 20 year is coming up in less than 2 years...oh my!!!!!

Nope! Not because I didn't like any of the people in my class or didn't have the time - but I just felt like everyone would be judging everyone. Who got a college degree, a house, a good career, married, kids - In my book those things don't matter as long as you are happy and fill your day with joy.

I didn't go to mine. I was busy getting married that weekend!!

This coming summer is my 20th {good lord, how is that even possible?!} and I'm still on the fence. Like many people have said, I keep up with everyone on Facebook... So, we'll see. I might be busy meeting up with blogging friends or camping with my boys.

xoxo

Honey I didn't go to my 20th!! Thanks to facebook the people back in my junior high class are getting together... for some reason I have a hard time with those reunions :(

Nope nope nope nope. I enjoyed high school and am proud of what I accomplished there, but to me it's not worth the pomp and circumstance. I'm not super close with anyone I went to high school with and don't want to go just to do a "dog and pony show". Yuck.

(For the record I look awesome on paper - married to a super hot future lawyer, working as a therapist, buying my first house - it really wouldn't be fair to the others hahaha)

i have been so torn on this. granted, my 10 year reunion isn't for another 7 years, i ALREADY feel so much distance between my 'friends' from high school, that i can't imagine what it would be like 7 years from now. i'd probably be completely detached and not care too much about going :(

Christopher's is in two years and he THINKS he wants to go, but he's also torn. I feel like it's one of those things where you decide to go jUST before it's due to happen.

My classmates that were in charge of planning our reunion were a little slow to get things going so we had an 11 year reunion instead. It was pretty cool because it was at a bar and we were mixed in with other patrons so it wasn't all classmates. With so many people on facebook, I pretty much keep in touch with those that I still choose to stay in contact with so I don't think I'll go to another reunion.

I never had a high school reunion (or maybe I wasn't informed since I switched high schools in my last year) but my grade 8 friends got together a couple of years ago and it had been about 20 years since we last saw each other. Crazy huh?
