Hi! Another guest post while Micaela and her hubby are journeying to El Paso! I'm April from over at April, Maybe and I'm really excited to be guest posting, and on a Thursday! It's my favorite day of the week. :) Now, on to showing you my heart - or at least a little bit of it, following Micaela's instructions.
A Picture :
This is a picture from November 2009, about a month into my sophomore year of college. These goofy kids are my best friends in the entire world and I haven't seen them in such a long time. I was honestly planning to do my post on my love of Paris and how much I want to go back, but then I remembered this picture... and in honor of Micaela moving back to Texas, I'm focusing on my roots instead of my wings. These people are my little self-made family and I can't wait to see them again.
The time will come when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
Derek Walcott
Every time I read that poem, my heart swells just a little bit, and the first time I read it I immediately thought how much Micaela would like it, so it seems appropriate to include it in this post - although I will say that Tonight I Can Write by Pablo Neruda is my favorite poem in the entire world.
A Song:
Conveniently for me, Alabama and Arkansas (my two homes) are mentioned in this song. Every time I hear it, no matter where I am or what I'm doing, I have to stop and just enjoy it.
Quote:
In the spirit of a new year:
In the spirit of a new year:
“Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past. Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go.”
Brooks Atkinson
Item of Clothing:
This hat. Best $10 I ever spent.
Place:
Picking a place is hard, but the way I feel about it is kind of like that riddle from Inception: You are waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you can't be sure. But it doesn't matter because you'll be together. So for a place, I'm just posting a picture of me and my little sister. It doesn't really matter much where I go, just as long as I know that I can be with someone I love.
Well, that's all from me! Please keep Mr. and Mrs. Maxham in your thoughts while they're trekking it across the US of A!
And have a lovely Thursday! It holds so much promise, the day just before freedom!

April I love your heart! It's such a beautiful, thoughtful one. Love that photo of you and your best friends. I wish you guys many more goofy moments ;) I love that you focused on your roots with this post. As they say "Home is where the Heart is" right? And that anywhere with your little sis (such a cute pic!) or someone you love is your place melts my heart. I am in love with that poem, it spoke directly to me! xo
I love your "place" I think i might have answered similar to that.
LOVE this post. That is one of my favorite songs, and your hat is adorable! So fun to see you posting over here! :)
That poem is beautiful...

Everything that April writes is filled with wisdom and thought. And I loved Micaela's blog too! Now a follower!
A very Beautiful heart April - I especially love the place one!
I would also be happy anywhere as long as I was surrounded by those dearest to my heart :)
xoxo
