this book may possibly change my life.

... "the lending of a hand from me to myself when nobody else is around to offer solace---

reminds me of something that happened to me once in New York City. I walked into an elevator. As I rushed in, I caught an unexpected glimpse of myself in a security mirror's reflection. In that moment my brain did an odd thing-- it fired off this split second message: "Hey! You know her! That's a friend of yours!" And I actually ran forward toward my own reflection with a smile, ready to welcome that girl whose name I had lost but whose face was so familiar. In a flash instant, of course, I realized my mistake and laughed in embarrassment at my almost dog like confusion over how a mirror works. But for some reason that incident comes to mind again tonight during my sadness in Rome, and I find myself writing this comforting reminder at the bottom of the page:

Never forget that once upon a time, in an unguarded moment, you recognized yourself as a friend."

Your posts about this book makes me want to re-read Eat, Pray, Love . . . or maybe it would be more productive to go out and get her second book! When I read E, P, L, I was totally overwhelmed by the desire to wander around Italy and Bali and India . . . what a luxury!

that book was so unbelievably good. i do want to see the movie, but i already know it'll never live up to her amazing way of finding the exact right words for sentiments i've always had but never knew i was harboring until someone else gave them a voice.

Oh Micaela! I've just read ...or so I feel's latest post, and that was enough to set me off all weepy - and now this! Between you you've managed to break my heart so beautifully this morning. I said to Marisa that I'm still looking for someone to relate her Monday song to...your post has made me think a little deeper about that.

Have a wonderful day :-)

i have a crazy reflection story... a few years ago, chris, our friend charles and i went to VA beach for the weekend, and they talked me into going in a haunted house. i'm terrified of those things. so we walked around a corner, and i saw this girl coming toward me and i jumped, screamed and grabbed chris for dear life, then i realized it was my own reflection. sad, huh?!?

i hope you have a good day tomorrow!

Thanks so much for the sweetest comment EVER on my blog - you made my day! :) You may have also seen that this post inspired my post about the movie coming out. I hope you're still loving the book!

That sounds kinda good. I was never really interested in reading that book, I think for my own faith based reasons, but you really like it? Maybe I will go see the movie.

I've still been thinking of you often, but my schedule is so crazy and I know we all are but I just wanted to let you know that you are a very beautiful woman who was created in the image of God and he loves you so much and wants so much for you and is calling you to himself. I've haven't gotten my act together yet, but I will be posting hopefully this week the very heartfelt gift your brother sent and the one you sent me too. I'm going to send him another card too. If you get a chance, you can let him know that what he sent meant so much to me, it brought tears to my eyes. You have a beautiful family. Have a wonderful week. xoxo M.

Ok. I need to read this book.
And I love little moments like that -- when you see yourself in a mirror or on a video and it doesn't immediately register as being you.
