Chains do not hold a marriage together. It is threads, hundreds of tiny threads which sew people together through the years. -Simone Signoret

my parents on their wedding day

my beautiful parents just celebrated 40 years of marriage bliss!

being a newly wed, i pray for a marriage like theirs.

I can already tell you, in the frustrations of moving... i can't say i was the best bride these past few days. When we first pulled into el paso, this small town girl was pretty overwhelmed. I was surprised how seriously homesick i felt for VA and for the first two days while husband went off to work, i just wanted to sleep and lay in bed depressed, scared we'd never find a house in a nice neighborhood we could afford -- let alone the fears i have in finding a job.

moving to VA wasn't so bad because we had his parents 10 minutes away. {I don't think i would have survived moving away from my family i'm so close to, had it not been for my wonderful in-laws.}

Now we're completely on our own in a big city.

I'm reminded of the beginning of my parent's story. My Mom moved COUNTRIES away from her family when she got married (she left home in the Philippines and followed her heart to California to be with my pappa who was in the air force). She used to tell us stories about how she wanted to go to work with my pappa because she was so sad and scared to be away from him. It wasn't until my Granddaddy took her to an Asian restaurant did she finally feel like everything was truly going to be okay. It reminded her of home.

Today, we got the keys to what will soon-be our home: a beautiful 3 bedroom 2 bathroom duplex in a quiet neighborhood on the west side of town with the mountains as our backyard. They're laying new carpet tomorrow and this weekend, i'll start making it feel like home.

I'm so excited {and relieved} to start feeling "back to normal" {and back to blogging! i've missed you all}. With a new home, the fear and sadness of moving again is slowly melting into excitement of our new adventure, of exploring our new city!

and someday, i'll tell our kids about "our beginning."

"Here's to matrimony, the high sea for which no compass has yet been invented!" -Heinrich Heine

*thank-you to all my beautiful friends who kept y'all company. Didn't i tell you you'd love them as much as i do? xoxo

You'll make it a home, Micaela, the two of you together. Can't wait to hear about your newlywed adventures and learn all about your new city.

It's so good to have you back! I loved guest-posting (thanks for asking me) and it was so nice to read all your other friends' words, too. But I missed you!
love E

This made me cry twinkie!!!! When I talked to you that first overwhelming night and hearing how shaken up you were with everything just hitting you at once made me so incredibly sad. I felt so helpless because all I wanted to do was be right there in El Paso with you and make everything better the way I was use to doing all our lives. I love how Mom can always comfort you, how re-telling you the stories of her and dad's beginning gave you comfort because it was so similar to your own beginning with Max! You feel so grown up to me since we've been apart and I am just so proud of you twinkie!! Thinking about my future nieces or nephews (your M&M's!) makes me tear up even more!! AHHH!!! Your life is taking off, enjoy this excitement! You'll be a city girl yet :) And a TEXAS big city girl at that! I love you sooooo much and I can't wait to come to El Paso and see your new home ;) xoxoxoxoxoxo

I'm glad you're safe and sound, and I'm super glad you found a place, it sounds like a great place! Maybe it's good that it's just you two, you can start everything together and share it all. :)

Dearest Micaela,

I understand everything you just wrote oh so well. But you are going to have so much fun. You have so many dear friends cheering you on. We adore you and those El Paso people will too. Just think of all the decorating possabilities. That's what always gets me through when we move (and we do it often). I'm here for you always. If you need ANYTHING, I'm your girl.

love love,
Fritzi Marie

Let the adventures begin...you two are going to have so much fun.

Once the dust from all the change has settled, it WILL feel like home. Finding a place is more than half the battle, now you get to make that place home with your hubby, which to me is the fun part!!

The worst is over and the best is yet to come!! : )

lots of love...

being in a new place can be overwhelming and daunting, but think of your self as an explorer every street you walk down is a new discovery and adventure, whats more you've got someone wonderful to share your adventures with.

David and I moved states away soon after our marriage for my school. We knew no one, we didn't have jobs in place... all in all it was rough and I would do it again in a heart beat. Our marriage is so firmly grounded and strong after that adventure. We learned to be on our own and truly depended upon each other with very little support. I honestly think that it may just be the best thing to do to every new couple. And yes, it is stressful. But oh how you will thrive!
AND ASAP (because you are so not busy in the middle of a move and buying a house, i know) send me the address to those darling little new shiny keys so that I can send you some loving. It is in transition that mail means the most!
love ya,

I have to say . . . moving to a brand new city with my beloved sounds like a dream to me. :) I would love experiencing the newness of a city with the man I adore--neither of us having anyone else to lean on except each other. Enjoy it! You'll be great. :)

I'm sure you'll have no trouble in making your new place your home :) and moving is hard, but with time everything will fall into it's own place.

I'm sure you know this already though ;)

I LOVE the quote at the top... so true. And the photos that mirror eachother just perfect. How wonderful that you have parents that you can look to for advice with your marriage. Such a blessing. Love you

This is such a sweet post.
I think that overcoming such a big move right away in your marriage will make it even stronger. (Or at least thats what I keep telling myself) Jus & I have been busy renovating since we came back from our honeymoon and we moved the day after Christmas so I definitely understand feeling sort of up in the air.
Be sure to spend time just the two of you so you can celebrate being newlyweds, we got so busy with the house that we forgot that we just got married and are just now realizing that we need to enjoy being newlyweds.
I'm glad you found a house! I'm sure you'll have fun making it your home!

I was just thinking about our own beginnings. We had to live in my mom's garage as newlyweds for about three months until our house was ready. The first night there I cried and my husband asked do you want to go back to your mom's? I answered 'no' because I really didn't. But I was afraid. He cried with me. Same thing when I brought my baby girl home...I cried. I send you big hugs!

So lovely to have your voice around again Micaela and I had a gorgeous little dose of you on my birthday yesterday too when I got your Christmas card- I was so excited to add it to my card pile.

So pleased that you have found somewhere to call home soon enough as reading the beginning all I wanted to do was give you hug and tell you that you would find somewhere.

Look forward to hearing about your new home and could you let me know your new address please?
xx

You have the best outlook and attitude, and that will get you through ANYTHING. You guys will be ok. You're back in your home state -- even if you're in a big city and still far from family -- and you have your amazing hubby by your side. Your new home sounds beautiful, and it will be HOME.

I can't wait to see pictures and hear more about your newest adventure.

Good luck... I'm sure you'll adjust pretty well and soon enough.

You sure are going to make a very lovely home for you and your hubby and hopefully for the coming kids...
