a delicious first chapter.

"She had that arty girl's passion for photomontage too; flash-lit snaps of college friends and family jumbled in amongst the Chagalls and Vermeers and Kandinskys, the Che Guevaras and Woody Allens and Samuel Becketts. Nothing here was neutral, everything displayed an allegiance or a point of view. The room was a manifesto, and with a sigh Dexter recognised her as one of those girls...

He watched the smoke curl from his mouth. Feeling for an ashtray, he found a book at the side of the bed. 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being,' spine creased at the 'erotic' bits." ---page 9

because tv let me down tonight (a painful mavericks loss + american idol being really bad this year + tivo not recording the Grey's Anatomy finale - which ironically might have made the night not a complete television watching fail) i turned it off.

Instead, i grabbed the book amazon delivered on my doorstep this afternoon, filled a tub with bubbles and began reading until the bubbles dissolved.

the first chapter alone was a win and i can't wait to keep reading about dex and em (thank-you M for getting me on board before the film).

i giggled because Nicholls description of the girl? is not only the kind of way i wish to always be seen but it also made me blush.

and so i called my husband into the bathroom and read out loud that description knowing he would get it.

if you came over, i'd show you my copy of said book mentioned-- the unbearable lightness of being which i actually just finished reading-- sitting on my night table, pages creased and all.

It's one of the best books I've discovered recently...I'm sure a lot of girls can relate to both their characters surprisingly...the book is filled with such beautiful words that I was constantly smiling or aching..I hope you find a bit of yourself in the book :)

P.S : Milan Kundera, sigh !!

Hee hee you're adorable, perhaps we should make a photomontage of pictures of our battered copies of 'the unbearable lightness of being' as the next logical move? :D PS. I would jump at your swap proposal, but I think that Stella bear will be a bit awkward to ship, you'd need a really big bubble mailer and everything ;) xx

i read that book last year within a day. i loved it. some people from the book club i saw it from didn't like it. i guess i like stories like that because it is realistic. i wrote about it on my blog, but i can't remember when. feels like it's been so long.
