My Last Five.

If you asked me to take down the last five books I've read, these are the ones I'd grab for you from my bookshelf.

Made me love her even more. I love what she wrote about marriage and being on the same team.

I've had this one sitting on my shelf for awhile and finally picked it up. This exchange from the beginning sunk me in:

You looked as if you didn't need anyone, she said.
But those are the ones who need the most, he said. Don't you know that?

The book is so much better than the movie (though it's beautifully cast).

I want to hug Anne Lamott. She got me through the trenches of the first weeks of motherhood with her honesty and tenderness. I just passed this one along to a dear friend who might need her now for different reasons, and I hope she feels as I do about this book.

Hands down, one of my absolute favorites. I could not put this book down. I read it while nursing Felix and I actually looked forward to nursing her because of this book. If you haven't read it yet, READ IT NOW. I will send you my dog eared copy.

(This is one of those rare gems where the movie is actually as great as the book. They couldn't have picked a better Charlie or Patrick. Please do yourself a favor and read the book, see the movie. I wish I could watch it with you)

“And if the man who once upon a time had been a boy who promised he'd never fall in love with another girl as long as he lived kept his promise, it wasn't because he was stubborn or even loyal. He couldn't help it.”
― Nicole Krauss, The History of Love

I have wanted to read this for so long and finally decided to as a Valentine's treat to myself. I wanted to love it because I waited so long and because I love her husband's novels. And yet. If you've read this, I would love to discuss it with you (because I hate spoilers and fear I would give too much away saying what I didn't like about this book).

I'm in need of a new read. Any suggestions? What were the last five books you've read?

(another last five post)

What you should watch + Why I love Twitter.

Last night (with a sleeping baby on my lap) I managed to watch a whole movie with limited interruptions. I just loved Hit & Run! It was hilarious, sweet, and had such a great cast.

I am such a fan of Dax Shepard. Not only is he my favorite Braverman, but I fell in love with him in this movie. And I love him and Kristen Bell together. side note: how cute will their baby be?

My favorite part in Hit & Run was right at the beginning when he tells her to take three deep breaths. I love how they shot that. The close-up of her eyes... swoon.

I enjoyed the movie so much, of course I had to tweet about it. Lovies, you know I adore a good celeb tweet. But this, this was crazy awesome! (even that is a weak description) A reply from DAX SHEPARD this morning:

I immediately called Marianne & Christina to scream about it and I was shaking ha I don't want to gloat (or sound crazy) but it's a pretty sweet tweet right?

Seriously though, Hit & Run is a fun movie worth your watch.

Thank-you Dax Shepard for making my whole month xo

happy things with which to end the week.

♥ i have really talented and beautiful friends like Kitty who made this doll for Felix. love love love, just like her & her son, baby Roscoe.

♥ Kait told me about Target selling limited-edition soup cans with Warhol's iconic imagery. Clearly, i had to pick up some for us (she lives in Canada). My favorite Warhol quote, "I think everybody should like everybody."

♥ putting care packages together are my favorite. A belated housewarming for L. Nicole (i can't wait to show you all that she sent Felix and me in a post next week)

♥ Felix is one of the cool bebes now, she finally has a Sophie la girafe ;)

♥ how my husband says he's sorry

♥ Kary's son (who's like a nephew to us) celebrated his 9th birthday on the 5th. How me and twinks wish we could be in NYC all together again eating Shake Shack & Magnolia.

♥ these sippy cups twinkie bought (both are the same gold metallic, forgive the lighting)

♥ being featured on Megan's floral lookbook. Gosh, i don't even recognize my old waist or my less chubby cheeks. Also? after admiring the other bloggers, must get some floral pants after baby.

♥ cheers to another season of FOOTBALL! ahem, DALLAS COWBOYS FOOTBALL!!! What a way for our boys to kickoff the season with an amazing win against the Giants. SO EXCITED for more of that!

♥ husband took me on a movie date (probably one of our last for awhile, which sounds crazy!) to see this one and i loved it.

looking for moments of connection.

photo

"It's about misunderstandings between people and places, being disconnected and looking for moments of connection. There are so many moments in life when people don't say what they mean, when they are just missing each other, wanting to run into each other in a hallway."

-Sofia Coppola, explaining what Lost in Translation is about

(one of my favorites was on tv the other night & i was reminded why i love it so)

delightful.

Bob: It gets a whole lot more complicated when you have kids.
Charlotte: It's scary.
Bob: The most terrifying day of your life is the day the first one is born.
Charlotte: Nobody ever tells you that.
Bob: Your life, as you know it... is gone. Never to return. But they learn how to walk, and they learn how to talk... and you want to be with them. And they turn out to be the most delightful people you will ever meet in your life.
Charlotte: That's nice.

Wanting to Know you Wens.

what was the last movie you watched on Netflix? would you recommend it?

last night me and my husband watched HappyThankYouMorePlease on netflix's instant watch. I read a review where someone called it this year's Garden State, and i have to say that's a pretty good comparison. I was amazed that Josh Radnor wrote, directed, and starred in this film. If this movie was a book, i would have underlined a bunch of his lines.

your turn. suggest a movie for me, please! and if you saw this one, what did you think? (the dinner scene between sam#2 and annie, le sigh)

+ another good netflix watch i saw recently

"the darkness is going to swallow us if we don't do something drastic."

Anna: People like us, half of them think it will never work out. The other half believe in magic.

how i spent wednesday night and how i think you should spend thursday night.

finally finally finally! & i couldn't be more excited!!!

as my first year wedding anniversary gift, guess what i asked for? for my darling husband to take me to see Breaking Dawn : Part 1.

i mean it's only fitting... Bella & Edward say i do in this one. I saw the top movie still and had to put our wedding photo underneath. Hilarious right? and proof it's the perfect wedding gift for this "Team Edward yet loves how Jacob loves Bella" girl.

and because he's such a good husband (like Lacey's!), he's taking me on a date this evening. Honestly, i think he's taking pity on me that this is the first one i didn't get to see on opening weekend with my twinkie. I am so sad i don't get to watch it with her {after all, these books hold a special place in my heart thanks to marianne-- they were what helped me through being homesick}.

"In that moment, as the minister said his part, my world, which had been upside down for so long now, seemed to settle into its proper position."  pg 49

lovies, i can't wait!!!

his films are my favorite dates with myself on the couch.

nothing like starting your day off with sleeping in, pumpkin spice latte, and a woody allen film*

(oh how i wish today looked like my Tuesday)

*it's on insant on nextflix. i loved it and wondered how it had slipped my fingers before. Truly touching, so much so parts are uncomfortable to watch but you'll be glad you did.

happy things to end the week with.

♥ packing a snack and folding a love note for husband {snack pack by itchin stichin}

♥ as if i needed more proof of why i love this man

♥ look what twinkie bought for me! i can't wait to wear it as we take on the Tigers (sorry Yankee fans! A-Rod messes up two years in a row? wow). BRING IT! {thank-you twinks! i have so much fun "watching" with you via texts/phone calls during the games. lets hope your c.j. wilson also brings it! ;) love you! xo}

♥ a new guilty pleasure? Hart of Dixie. i just love Rachel Bilson.

actually, my tivo just got busy... besides said new show, dexter!!!, and another season of Grey's Anatomy, i'm also watching these:
♥ i'm late into the game of its always sunny (thanks to manny and kidnapping his dvds, i'm all caught up!) // season two, finally!

♥  grabbing a dinner out of my choice (an order of large chick-fil-a waffle fries and a veggie corn dog from Hot Dog on a Stick conveniently next door) and being touched by this film. Perfect mid week date night with my husband.

and because i sound like such a couch potato (i can be) who eats horribly (i do),  i'm lacing my trainers for a good sweaty run before i have to work this evening.

Holly Golightly: "Thursday! It can't be! It's too gruesome!"

now this would be a way to beat the mean reds.

happy things this week is replaced by things i turn to when instead i'm sick.

yesterday i woke up with a horribly sore throat... the kind that makes you afraid to swallow. the kind that although i'm a girl who loves her coffee... rushed to turn the kettle on, and haven't sipped anything but tea in the last 24 hours.

♥ my tea set
♥ though it's still a bit warm to pull them out of the closet just yet-- being sick means i've got the nasty chills and if i'm going to feel awful and not bother with make-up (hence, my face not showing in said photo), i'm going to wear my knee high boots to look like i feel just a little better.

♥ and the only reason i dared think of venturing out of my pjs and bed was i was seriously craving a roasted tomato soup bread bowl from Corner Bakery. i swear i'm the only sick girl who keeps her regular appetite.

♥ dates with my netflix : loved Charlotte Gainsbourg's Jane Eyre portrayal (she is a girl crush of mine). Jane Eyre has always been one of my favorite classics, especially when it helped me through this dark time.

♥ and i probably shouldn't write about this cos my darling husband might be embarrassed but... i haven't showered since wens. and knew it would probably make me feel better if i did. He might have washed my hair and combed and blow-dried it for me after i told him that's what my Momma used to do when we were little, especially when we were sick.

that... that is real love. or i'm terribly spoiled and helpless when i feel this sick.

Happy Friday Lovies!!! what happy things are you ending the week with? (i promise the usual happy things will return next week...)

or what makes you feel better when you're sick? seen any good movies on instant netflix? i fear this sickness will last til the weekend... your suggestions please! ♥

happy things to end the week with.

♥ playing with sunlight in my thrifted stripped dress to music blasting

♥ movie dates with my husband during the week are my favorite! he took me to see one day (loved how well they adapted the book to screen... dex and em, em and dex) and i graciously went with him to see captain america (though i love any super hero movie with a love story!)

♥ Thank God football is back, indeed!!! i saw this hot cover while grocery shopping and had to send it to claire and twinkie. ladies, if football is not your forte -- mark sanchez is all the reason to watch! i've missed my football, i've missed my Dallas Cowboys. This is our year!!!

♥ Kary let me borrow her copy and lovies, i could not put it down. Emily Giffin is the perfect summer read (i finished it in a day) and giffin gets it right. This book touched our heart and soul. i could have underlined countless sentences/paragraphs/pages i have felt.

♥ and i'll leave you with a stella bear smile!
