"Wouldn't it be lovely if we were old? We'd have survived all this."

one of my favorite love stories is the classic "The Way We Were." This film never fails to make my heart ache. I cry every single time Katie calls Hubblle in tears, begging him to come over.

If you've ever desperately loved someone, you want them to be the one to make it all better, even if they're the one that hurt you. You let them see you weak because they are your weakness. She says on the phone that she needed someone to talk to and it would be fine if she had a best friend, only he was her best friend.

i remember when my epic relationship failed, what hurt the most was losing my best friend. Even reading this post about my Hubbell... more than a year later & in such a better place in my life... it still makes me cry for how alone i felt in that moment. That aching realization of the weight of what is lost.

i am a Katie girl.

Complicated... often times too much and when i love, "i'm deaf, dumb, and blind."

i believe that sometimes two people can love each other so much and it still not work out, no matter how hard you try.

Katie Morosky Gardner: You'll never find anyone as good for you as I am, to believe in you as much as I do or to love you as much.
Hubbell Gardner: I know that.
Katie Morosky Gardner: Well then why?
Hubbell Gardner: Do you think if I come back its going to be okay by magic? What's going to change? What's going to be different? We'll both be wrong, we'll both lose.
Katie Morosky Gardner: Couldn't we both win?

Ohhhh, my heart pangs reading this! And of course, it reminds me of the SATC episode where Big and Natasha have their engagement party at the Plaza, and Carrie & the girls have cocktails nearby, and Carrie's like "I'm a Katie girl. Hello? C-c-c-curly!!" haha. And then she says to Big: "Your girl is lovely, Hubbell." OMG! Devastating. :(

I'm rather ashamed to say I've never seen this film - I really should watch it.. one day!

However, the song was played at the funeral service of someone I loved very much, & it's just so .. perfect. Brings me to tears every single time.
So if the song reflects the film in any way, I'm sure to love it (yet also be in floods of tears throughout!)

I've never seen the movie, but now I am dying to. And I do agree with you - I think you can love someone so much but sometimes it's just not enough...

Oh, you killed me with that! I've never seen the movie and now I'm scared to. I'm not a cryer and I think this movie will change that.

I have also never seen it. Not sure if I can. I think I'd rather stay ignorant (somewhat) to the idea that some loves just can't be.

I've never seen this.... yet I'm SUCH a Streisand fan! I'm a musical theatre junkie so she's an idol, but I haven't seen much of her non-singing things. Sounds tragic and amazing!

i'm a Katie girl too.. (you and i have been over this before). some things never change. but i'm glad we're both at the points (strangely, a year later for me as well) where we realize we've got to move on. there are better people out there. and you can't live your life crying every day.

I've actually never seen this movie, but I am putting it on my Netflix immediately! There's something serenely real and heartbreaking about sad romances...and I always find watching them to be a little healing, even when I didn't realize that a small part of me still hurt about something, whatever it is.

Claire, SATC-- that exact episode is why i went and HAD to watch this film. It's such a great episode... when she walks away from him and says, "and you never did..." when he said he doesn't "get it."

A MUST SEE lovies!!!

seriously seriously.

and when you do see it, come back and let me know what you think. You will LOVE it.

xoxo
