"I love her for what she dared to be, for her hardness, her cruelty, her egoism, her perverseness, her demoniac destructiveness. She would crush me to ashes without hesitation. She is a personality created to the limit.
I worship her courage to hurt, and I am willing to be sacrificed to it.
She will add the sum of me to her. She will be June plus all that I contain."
intense as only Anais Nin can be.
it was what i was reading as i spoiled myself to a pedi on my day off {before i begin cleaning house}
the lighting in our living room doesn't do the neon justice. |

1. This blog post made me think about our convo which made me start giggling again. HAHAHA!
2. Your toes look adorable! I just bought a pretty Essie red and I'm gonna do mine pronto.
3. Ohhhhhhhhh Anais. I can't get enough of her. It's like literally all of her writing is that intense and beautiful. Just reading that excerpt makes me want to go home and get in bed with Henry & June and stay there for a while.
:)
Anais just knows how to dig into the heart!! Love your toes...and oh to be a fly on the wall/phone/computer to hear what Claire had to say. She's awesome!
xoxo,
Carrie
Confession: I'm not very familiar with Anais Nin's work... but this post (and past readings about Claire's love for her) makes me want to change that pronto!
xoxo
You should send that book my way when you get done with it. I have an intense obsession with destructive (Southern?) female characters like Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind and Maggie the Cat in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. I looooove opportunistic women who sacrifice love to claw their way to the top. (I am so weird, right?)
PS I'm reading Eat, Pray, Love again in preparation for going abroad.
Claire I love you!!! and Carrie, you would want to :) she's so awesome! just as her blog is.
J, i wasn't honestly either-- just quotes here and there (this one is my FAVE: http://dolcevitamicaela.blogspot.com/2009/01/it-dies-because.html I know you'll love it!) but thanks to Claire, i'm getting schooled. ;)
April, SO DO I! angelina jolie has a tat that says, "what nourishes me also destroys me" and i've always loved it. I'm dark and moody when it comes to matters of the heart so another thing we have in common love! EPL- what a perfect re-read for that! this might sound weird but i was talking to my twinkie earlier on the phone and she was talking about how much she just LOVES you! ha i do too. i'm SO EXCITED for you + your trip across the pond!
i need to read more anais nin that is for sure!
we need a "wanting to know you wens" pedicure edition. whether its at home or in the salon. i like pretty painted toes!
love, love, love!! I've never actually read any Anais Nin, but I have quotes of hers filling my notebooks. I think I need to pick up a book.
A book and a pedi? Perfection!
I'm not very familiar with Anais Nin's work either... but I kinda want to be now!! That is a wonderful quote. Writing it down now. This is why I love your blog, you always have the most wonderful and inspiring things to share!! Thank you for that. : )
what a nice surprise to jump on over here and find a quote from anais. almost every book i own by her is completely underlined. i'm like an underlining addict!
xo
oh i could do with a pedi right about now! so luxurious, i'm jealous!
Not to scare you but you have lovely feet, haha! ;)
I've never actually read Anais Nin but I think I will have to. Seems very intense which would be very interesting.
Love your toe colour. It makes me want to get a pedicure. Especially with summer coming up.
I love Anais Nin. And your toes are so pretty! I want to go get a pedicure now!
Love your polish. And that toe ring! I used to have a toe ring... Might be time to get another. A little bling to perk me up. Good plan.
