who was your childhood hero?

i bet you didn't know that growing up i was in love with what was then, the WWF.

Yup, wrestling. My childhood hero was Bret "The Hitman" Hart. There was a time i would beg my parent's for the latest merchandise and mapped out a road trip from Texas to Calgary Alberta, Canada so I could meet Bret. Though my pappa never drove me thousands and thousands of miles to see him, he did give me countless birthday presents of the Hitman stand-up (life size cardboard cut out of Bret in my childhood room with lipstick marks on his cheeks) and figurines.

It's a part of my childhood-- up until he stopped wrestling some 12 years ago. It was a sad day for young me. The wrestler that ended his career? Shawn Michaels-- who just so happens to be my twin sister's favorite wrestler. A love for wrestling was something we share. Who knew that our favorite "heros" would be make the greatest rivalry?

Yesterday was Wrestlemania 26, a great irony: Bret Hart made his great comeback in the ring and Shawn Michaels says goodbye to the ring. For me and twinkie, it was a delight seeing our wrestlers together.

"Smiling in glorious defeat, a humbled and satisfied Michaels graciously embraces Hart’s gesture. Instantly, it becomes even more apparent that, for Bret, this night and this ring resurgence has been about repairing wounds, no matter how deep."

On The Grandest Stage of Them All, closure is accomplished for a murky, muddled past for The Hit Man. And while Hart is presently enjoying the emotions wrought by a moment so long in the making, there’s contentment in knowing that “The Best There Ever Will Be” still lies ahead."

my husband-to-be laughs at our "crazinesss." Yes, we know it's fake *smiles* but it's a part of our childhood. A part of our bond. A part of us.

^me and my Bret Hart biography.

maybe i'll get to meet him after all? it would be a HUGE life list checked off.

LOL, I loooooved the WWF sooooo much too when I was growing up! My older brother surprised me with tickets to a big event once but my mom & dad had already planned a different trip so I couldn't go. I was so sad!!!! I never had one favorite, tho I always loved Ultimate Warrior. I just loved it all. =) I love this story of you and your sister.

Confession: Back in the Dark Ages of my youth when I thought I was all bad-ass and my teachers through I needed a better outlet for my aggression other than setting lockers on fire {true story lol}, I joined the wrestling team. And, man, was it a shining experience of my youth ;) So I feel ya.

Also, can I just say, you are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS! :)

Bahahahaha, I couldn't stop laughing at your WWF crush! That's so funny. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Michael Jackson (I even made people call me Michael, and I wouldn't walk, I'd moonwalk where I needed to go), Mr. T and He-Man. I even got to go see a He-Man and She-Ra show in Roanoke! I love that story, thanks for sharing!

That's hilarious. I went to a match when I was like 8 because my brothers were into it, but I never was. I did however loooove Wrestler Bars from the ice cream man. Did you have have them? They were my favorite!

Um, I loved that stuff!! I use to watch it all the time with my brother. I think I was a fan of the 1-2-3 kid. I also loved on Sean Michaels. The Undertaker scared the bejesus out of me. Just the chime of the bell would give me chills

I grow up with WWF as well :)! I am totally in love with The Undertaker. I have a postcard, a poster and a lot pictures of him. My brother and me even went to an event here in Germany. Unfortunately we can just see Smackdown here in Germany. All the other stuff would cost money and I don't have the money for a tv sender.

This is so cool.

I bought your man's book for my sweetheart's birthday this year. It was one thing that he really wanted. His favorite wrestler was Benoit, before the tragedy of course. Now it's Kofi Kingston...

Suprisingly enough I am really enjoying wrestling now...it's fun. I think Twinkie will see her man in the ring again soon...at least I hope.

And I hope you are able to one day meet your Hitman!!

Love you!

i have SOOOO enjoyed your comments! lol i know, my fiance was surprised i was such a wrestling girl :) but i was! and am SO glad my childhood hero is making a comeback :) WWF- those three letter sum up a lot of my childhood. In fact, an old junior high friend of mine wrote on my fb that he still has his school planner where i pretty much destroyed it with Bret Hart rules, "Mickey loves Bret" ha it was serious :)

Jayne, i laughed that you were actually in wrestling! you are such Girl Power!!! Daria totally! :)

Meghan, it's Rowdy Roddy Piper! hahaha isn't it? lol the kelt. Oh goodness, he had a rivalry with bret for a minute but were always good friends :)

Danielle, remind me to call you Michael this weekend and ask for a moonwalk show ;) that made me laugh so hard! She-Ra! Oh my goodness we had the castle and the dolls! wasn't there one who's head turned around and there was another face? lol

Fallon, i haven't :) ha but we have scored front seat tickets to a wrestling show back in Texas thanks to a nice event guy who was looking for girls to go in the front ;) we saw Shawn Michaels up close and it was the highlight of my twinkie's year! lol

Jozen, your SWEET comment meant alot to me and Marianne :) & of course i remember Punky Brewster :) lol

Marian, i know right?! and the eye roll... chills! He was the one that actually beat Shawn Michaels last night.

Fabi, i know, when we lived in Germany when we were little we hated that we couldn't watch it as often as they could stateside and we got all the main events late... but did we ever look forward to them! :) too funny.

Tiffany, what are the odds that i have the same book you got your bf! lol I LOVE it! it's a great read and reminded me a lot of "The Wrestler" movie with Mickey Rouke. Such tragic stories... it is a hard life, fake yes, but it takes true athleticism. Kofi! LOL it IS fun :) and great to see live! hearts xoxo

SERIOUSLY, LOVED YOUR COMMENTS ON THIS POST! it is dear to my HART! ;)

xoxoxoxoxoxoxo's to you all! (from me and twinkie!)

i never had a favorite, but my little sister and i used to watch WWF everyday after school. she told me a year ago that even though we watched it she was a little scared of it. sometimes she thought the wrestler's would break into our house and get us (we spent upwards of 2 hours home alone after school everyday)

Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant, hands down. They were WWF, right? By the way, I lived just outside of Stuttgart. I used to go up to Frankfurt and Mainz to visit friends.

i'll be honest,i don't know if I have ever watch a wrestling match. One of my favorite cousins was a huge fan so I am sure I saw some but not enough to pick a favorite. You are too cute with this post.

my hero was always my gramps..i mean I literally thought he could walk on water,,, but then it was probably Jo from Little Woman and Anne from Anne of Green Gables...i know, i know !!!
