Wanting to Know you Wens.

mixed tapes are my favourite.

i always say they are our own personal time machine, reminding us of certain times in our life (the exciting thrill of a new relationship, of college summers, heartache and the in between, childhood...).

i made this mixed tape as a thank-you for the amazing one sharni made me in a mix share swap. you can always count Coldplay to be on any compilation tape i make because theirs would be the soundtrack of my life. And of course i have to throw in a song by my Robbie Williams and that needs no explanation.

what songs/bands/singers do you always put on a mixed tape?

Well, you know mine, because you have a few mixed cds from me. :) I'd say: Iron & Wine (The Trapeze Swinger), Van Morrison (Into the Mystic), REM (Nightswimming), Leona Naess (How Sweet), maybe some Jackson Browne or Allman Brothers depending on who I'm sending to. Oh how I love Micaela mixed cds! We should make new ones for each other. I love you!

A couple of artists I almost always include: Destroyer (i LOVE Destroyer) and Bill Callahan/Smog. These are especially effective if the listener has never heard them. I have a mix tape on my blog right now that has two songs by my current obsession: The Knife. I am in love with the album Deep Cuts. That whole album is all I'd put on a mix tape if I was making one today.

I always like to sneak a little Hanson in on mix tapes I make friends so when they love it and ask me who # whatever was, I can tell them that they just admitted to liking Hanson. Works wonders with boys. And it happens a lot.

I adore The Fray! I cannot remember the last time I actually made a mix anything. I think I still have a few old mix tapes (yes, tapes) in the garage but nothing to play them on. Dang! May have to invest in a tape cassette player. Did I just say that? Do they still have those? lol

I love the idea that mix tapes are our own personal time machines! That is so beautifully put, and so true. I've heard (and adored) so many, and yet...a confession...I've never made one myself!! Maybe that will be a good project to work on. I am so in love with the idea of music as a marker for "where" we are.

Awwww there is the cd you sent me! I got it last week week and as instructed I poured a glass of wine and put it on nice and loud.. it was a great way to spent my Friday night! I honestly haven't enjoyed listening to a cd (or reading a letter) in such a long time so thankyou so much Micaela. Bands that always make it onto my mixes are Avalanche City and Sally Seltman (as you probably know from mine) Also, thankyou for the sweet comment about my Etsy store :)

Aaah how I love mix CDs :)
Especially as I think you can learn a lot about a person from the kind of songs they pick. Great mix and artwork :D

I usually include a song by a 60s girl group like The Shirelles or The Crystals. Lykke Li, Patrick Wolf or The Kinks maybe-and I always mix old with new songs.

If you wanr to swap cds, let me know and i'll send you one x

lately, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs peek in to every single one of my mixes. i also like throwing neutral milk hotel's "naomi" or "the king of carrot flowers" on a mix (they remind me of summers in my hometown driving through giant fields of corn and hay) it really depends on my mood!

Hanson always makes it way onto every mix 'tape' I make. I've converted a few people by doing so!
