Felix is My Happy.
the only thing that would make her happy this morning was Mama smiling at her (while using that obnoxious baby talk voice) on photo booth. She's 7 weeks today. She's at that age where she can really see you now and those smiles because she recognizes you? goodness this is what i was born to do... be her Mama.
Listening to this song by the Lumineers also made Felix happy when she started to get fussy {clearly, she's got good taste}. Something that's changed since i became a Mama? every love song i hear, i think of her.
"i belong with you, you belong with me you're my sweetheart." Don't worry husband, you're still the bee's knees.
ps. what's also making me happy? everyone who's signed up so far for this year's ornament swap!
*thanks meg fee for these lyrics from The Avett Brothers. I can't stop listening to the mix that tells of your 2011. and of course you'd have this song on there. of course, because when i heard it-- i instantly thought of you.
♥ the most delicious pears by Harry & David delivered to our doorstep thanks to my dear friend (and once upon a time) joel. thank-you jolie! we loved them. xo
♥ my momma makes beautiful crochet doilies (like the one i use as my little tree's skirt) and sent me this necklace she made just for me. My momma's so cute! She was so excited about it and i couldn't love it more!
♥ i've been wearing milani jewel FX nail polish in gold - perfect for the holiday season! the possibilities are endless, but i've been wearing it over nude nails just to give my hands a bit of sparkle (like this photo)
♥ i can't stop playing this song! it got me through my work-out on the treadmill yesterday. just the name of the song is one of those perfect simple sentences that hold so much weight {not to mention how hot is the video?}
♥ having a friday off is def. a happy way to end the week! except it feels like chicago instead of el paso outside-- the wind is insane! but i have to take advantage of this day off and get some christmas shopping done... husband's fur trapper hat to the rescue!
Happy Friday Lovies!!! what happy things are you ending the week with? +please leave a link below if you do post-- i'd love to share in your happiness xo
***also, if you haven't entered the giveaway, please do so! winning a pretty necklace for free while supporting a great cause? seriously, why haven't you entered yet?! :)
i always say they are our own personal time machine, reminding us of certain times in our life (the exciting thrill of a new relationship, of college summers, heartache and the in between, childhood...).
i made this mixed tape as a thank-you for the amazing one sharni made me in a mix share swap. you can always count Coldplay to be on any compilation tape i make because theirs would be the soundtrack of my life. And of course i have to throw in a song by my Robbie Williams and that needs no explanation.
what songs/bands/singers do you always put on a mixed tape?
♥ have i mentioned how i have the best blog readers turned life long friends? Alyssa is the Ginger Spice to my Sporty Spice. She truly is a gem and never fails to make me laugh. Or make my day with a surprise-- case and point: she bought us matching Kate Spade bangles "just because." To remind us to take heart. Alyssa, i love your heart. xoxo
♥ i've taken to reading in a tub full of bubbles to unwind from the day. Now that it's become chilly (thank-you Autumn!) it's also a nice way to start the day... with a cup of coffee rather than my usual glass of wine at night. I love reading memoirs and was excited to find Mia Farrow's on my last used book shop run ($2 for a hardback? yes!). I'm a huge fan of Woody Allen films but what he did was horrible. I'm curious to read about it in her own words. do you like reading biographies?
♥ i met my vintage soul sister through my gf jessie's etsy swap. Amanda is also a really talented sewing goddess and had a genius idea to make cute re-usable snack bags. Since my husband works weekends, i decided to custom order one for when i pack his sandwiches:
saucy and i love the way it turned out! amanda was sweet to include the extra little pouch as a gift, because she's sweet like that. In fact...
use coupon code: FRIEND2FRIEND in her shop and get 20% off!
mommas, how cute would a snack bag be with your child's name on it? especially for the school year. thank-you Amanda!!!
and a song to kick off your weekend... Coldplay's new single "Paradise" to celebrate how i can't wait for their new CD!

i've been under a cloud of sorts, just trying to keep from feeling overwhelmed with a messy house i can't find the energy to keep clean, a pile of letters to reply to, and even blog posts that have been saved to drafts because i can't find the words (among other things). For no reason or a million silly little ones, this feeling just creeps up.
so i turn to music. i turn to my best friend marisa {my person}.
and i write it all down on yellow legal paper... to her, everything because i know she'll get me.
her text after she received my mixed tape above and said letter?
"i love you even more today."
words i needed to hear when i'm feeling just a little bit lost and a little less like myself.
♥ Bubbles being home after spending two nights at the emergency vet and our regular vet. We knew something was wrong when she threw up breakfast and didn't want to eat anything for a day and a half. We're thankful she's back to normal and though it cost us a pretty penny (ouch!) she's worth it. She's our baby!
♥ movie dates : i can't even tell you how excited i was to see Crazy, Stupid, Love but it was even better since i got to see it with my twinkie while i was home. Such a great film! you'll laugh, cry, and swoon (is it crazy i was swooning over steve carrell rather than ryan gossling? He had me at Dan In Real Life) the only thing that might come close to a movie date with my twinkie is one with my husband who took me to see The Help (amazing--i can't stress how amazing the acting was and how i wish i had read this before going to see it on the big screen).
♥ also while i was home, i tried out shellac nails for the first time and i gotta say, i'm loving it! i don't think i'll ever get any other kind of manicure again.
♥ anyone else excited about the return of Football? last night was my Dallas Cowboys first preseason game and they won against Denver. Excited about it, we ordered pizza at nearly 10 p.m. last night. that's how we Maxhams roll.
♥ i can't stop listening to this song. my co-worker made me a mixed cd and opened it with Lykke Li. how have i not heard more of her? if you're a fan of the twilight saga and have seen the movies, you've already heard her before {marianne, remember we liked this song? it went so well in that part of the film}. Mixed Tapes are my favourite.

♥ starting any morning with krispy kreme donuts are my favorite. even better? when you're surprised with a box by your husband wearing their paper hat. i love him i love him i love him...
♥ i know i post way too many photos of stella bear compared to our other dog babies maverick + bubbles, but stella is the only one who doesn't move when i snap a pic on my phone. imagine those floppy ears rising up and then back down and that tail wagging so fast, you'd think any moment she was going to fly into my arms.
♥ sometimes there's nothing like a cold beer on a hot texas day... husband brought home these new bottle Koozies for us of my teams. it really is the little things with me. they're better than any expensive bouquet of roses or flowers.
♥ i haven't stopped listening to this song and love every time it comes on during the crazy stupid love trailer. i saw Muse open for U2-- talk about a dream concert!
♥ and the best for last... the one thing that made me most happiest was my dearest friend kitty's official announcement on her blog yesterday. I'm so excited for her and Doug {+ baby bono!} I feel so special and honored to have been a part of the way she announced they were expecting. i adore kitty and just know she'll make a beautiful mommy.

♥ she may be my twinkie's soulmate but we have matching rocks... mine (above) and april's (first pic) friendship rings.
♥ the only thing that can make a random tuesday better (especially a tuesday when i get called into work on a day off) is when husband takes me on a movie date. We saw Larry Crowne and i was absolutely charmed. Tom Hanks? such a celeb crush!
♥ excited to have plans with candice... finally! remember when she was our neighbor? they've moved to a bigger house (still in el paso) but with my part time job sometimes requiring me to close on fridays, our date nights have been affected. good thing i get off at 5 today!
♥ sitting outside on our back porch with stella bear on my lap (i love how she put her leg over mine!) silly pic but it made me giggle.
♥ night time reading with husband before bed. mine, love in the time of cholera // his, the collector
♥ and this last one... if you're like my girl fiancee and hate country music, don't press play (ha) but i am a Texan and during the summer there is nothing like good country blasting on your radio!
my girlfriend jessie sent me a country mixed tape and let me tell you it made my day before going to work yesterday. She played this one for us girls in san francisco and it brought tears to my eyes. So beautiful and if you're ever been lucky to experience love like this... (even the painful kind) you'll relate to these simple and gorgeous lyrics.
makes me want to be dancing in a country bar with the person this song reminds me of...
M, i thought of you when i heard this knowing you'd love it if you haven't already heard it.

remember my crush on actor colin eggelsfield? well i can't get over karina getting these gorgeous photos while they were filming "something borrowed." beautiful. i was laying in the tubwhen i saw she posted them on twitter and called her right then to scream and gush!
speaking of bubble baths...
i'm pretty excited about april's first swap! it centers around the word pamper- verb: indulge with every attention, comfort, and kindness; spoil. sign ups end june 1st so get on it lovies!
remember this song by The Civil Wars that made my heart ache? well this lovely duo opened for adele and sweet faiza was lucky enough to see them both in concert! and through the powers of blackberry messenger, recorded "poison and wine" by the civil wars and "someone like you" by adele for me! it touched my heart i got to experience some of it thanks to her! she also mentioned the civil wars doing a fun rendition of "billie jean" that i had to look it up and share it. awesome! how cute is Joy Williams?
and just to show you not all the texts from my husband are lovie-dovie...
he sent me this photo of our pup stella saying she should be joe dirt's dog. {hi-larious!}
i've had serious dates with my netflix que {+ one on amazon} and loved all the above films. film 1 & 4 were suggestions by my bestie and the last one made me want to order the book right away.
speaking of films, who else is excited about the oscars?! though i didn't see all the films nominated, i'm wishing with all my heart this one wins.
postcards i've made for friends that inspired a project i'm working on, thanks to my most supportive husband! i hope it pans out... details when {if} it does!
i couldn't get enough of these bow ties for dogs, via The Debonaire. The cutie above looks just like our Bubbles.
catch-up phone dates with friends i adore {thanks lauren & claire!}
sneaking love notes in my husband's suit pocket when he has to go to work so early (gracie, noticed the stationary you sent me? thank-you!)
also making me happy was this darling picture of my momma in high school my twinkie shared on her blog. look at her bob! it's amazing to see your parents before you came along... i bet she was such a fun friend to know.
Happy Friday Lovies!!! what's making you happy? post your link below so i can see or tell me a few things from your week! xo
