rainy night.

i am no julia child. no martha stewart. (which is a shame really cos i have the world's best cook for a Mom)

but on a rainy evening in the state for lovers, i had the urge to cook my husband-to-be a dinner at home. Nothing fancy (I'm still learning this domesticated thing), just whole grain pasta with soy grounds in spicy spaghetti sauce with a glass of bubbly.

still... i felt like a wife-to-be. And that my friends, was a lovely feeling.

( oh you salt and pepper shakers )

we debated whether we should keep the bottle of wine with the rest of our "special moments together" collection.

Me cooking on my own before he got home from work? it's a pretty big event in the Lechuga-Maxham househould.

note that my girlfriend Lauren called (after seeing my facebook status) to say she would send over her vegetable pasta recipe, to which i texted after our conversation to say that i was nearly about to text her to ask her how to use a manual can opener (shame, i know) but that i had figured it out just in time for the sauce to splatter on the stovetop. Nice.

I am so not a domesticated diva. I just finished reading Julie & Julia, which was a fun read, but it made me realize now more than ever that I don't have what it takes to be a culinary goddess. Oh well, I can always do the dishes. ;)

P.S.) Um, those salt and pepper shakers are naughty! Hehe.

Awww this is such a nice post. The meal looks so tasty as well, and i'm not a massive fan spaghetti bolognese, so it must be good :P

My husband-to-be and I are getting our own house together in June, so this is something I'm looking forward to so much! (we live together at uni at the moment, but money and sharing makes it hard to make nice meals like this, but we do it occasionally)

:) xx

It looks as though you did a wonderful job! :) And side note: Julie & Julia? SUCH a great movie... I loved it.
Also- I see that bottle of Barefoot wine... have you tried their Moscato? It has quickly become my new favorite. Sweet White Wine = bliss. (p.s. ...I'm halfway through a bottle as I type.)
Love you, Sweet Girl!

Yum! You are too cute Micaela. I love that you took a photo of the meal...

We love spaghetti w/ veggie sauce at our house. I like to add lots of peppers to it, and then the kids whine about it and I have to pick them out!

Did husband-to-be do the dishes after?

Good for you! I hate cooking {although I love to bake!} and my boyfriend loves it. So it's super special when I take on the task and cook for him. It's been a while though, so I'm going to take some inspiration from you! :)
