Cancun, Mexico
We went to Cancun almost 2 years ago for our honeymoon.
Oh how it has changed. It's a shame really.
Mexico is a gorgeous country & now it is being ruined with violence.
While many people say that the touristy areas are safe,
I don't think we will be going back in the near future.
I do have many fond memories though.

This photo was taken of my boyfriend Jeff and I by a post in Haarlem in the Netherlands. We put the camera there and made several attempts at getting something as awesome as this. This was near the end of one of the bigger trips that we've done together. We'd gotten engaged just a few days earlier and spent much of our time travelling with a couple of our best friends in the world. There are nothing but happy memories wrapped up in this photo for me. I love it and am so looking forward to our wedding this fall.

I was lucky enough to see him live once (and unlucky enough to just miss seeing him live a bunch of other times) and he remains, 100%, my go to guy for any and every mood that strikes. This one's a bit of a heartbreaker, but I really wanted a video of him performing live. He is magical.

This quote changed my life. After I encountered it I began reading long novels and books that I was intimidated by and have never looked back.
An item of clothing:
My favourite clothing-like piece is a leather clutch by Forestbound, but it's not really clothing, per se. So instead I offer a photograph of some fabric that I bought last year. I love sewing and making things and hope someday to make a piece of clothing that I can be really proud of (and actually wear)...these cottons got turned into summer tote bags last year.
A place:
Finally, I think I would love to be that grounded person who would offer a picture of home as the place their heart resides, but mine lives in Vancouver with me as well as all of the other cities that I've called home. Not to mention Portland, Seattle, Amsterdam, Paris, London, Barcelona, and New York. Etc.
My heart has wanderlust, there's no two ways about it.

a little about me:
i moved to manhattan a few years ago after i graduated from college in vermont. i still can't get that beautiful state out of my mind, but i guess i'm still reeling after just spending the week up there being lazy on lake champlain. anyway, i am writer. i'm the assistant editor of a beauty industry trade magazine and after work, i avidly scribble away in my journal. i try to update my blog as often as i can about all of the fun and lovely things that go on in my life. i live downtown in the east village, and as anyone does who lives here, i love being in a place where so much is going on. if you're ever visiting, i'd be happy to tell you a few of my favorite places.

this is one of "our" first pictures together. me and my boyfriend. it was the first warm day after a very long winter and we were walking home from central park. i had four cups of coffee that day and a big plate of cheese fries (one of my favorite weekend habits) and i was a very happy girl.

growing up and all through high school, i went by Mickey.
i don't know why i started going by Micaela-- i think it was in college and it was easier not to correct professors who called on me or graded my papers.
but friends who've known me for a years still call me Mickey. So does my family, including these two i can not wait to see in two days. TWO DAYS!

my little sister maddie is about to marry her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart. i can't wait to be standing next to her as she becomes Mrs. Hamilton. My older sister, her husband, and my two adorable nieces sophia (don't you love the way she's looking up at maddie in the airport?) and marina flew in from italy friday.
i fly in on Wens. and i can't wait to hug them all and enjoy every minute with my family (not to mention all the eating i'll be doing! oh how i've missed my momma's food!). Sophia keeps asking, "auntie mickey, where are you?"
