The Birthday King.

(January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977)

my Momma grew up pretty poor in the Philippines but she would always save up her lunch money if there was a new Elvis film out. Elvis is something she passed on to me, something we share. When i left for VA, she gave me her old Elvis VHS set collection. (even though i don't have a VCR anymore, the tape covers are immaculate and for me, an heirloom i want to one day pass on to my daughter)

"return to sender" is our song. it instantly makes me happy listening to it, and i think of my momma and the teenage girl she was, long before i was even in her life, adoring the one and only Elvis in his glory.

this past summer, my HUSBAND-TO-BE (oh i love saying this) surprised me on our road trip with a stop at Graceland. It was seriously a life list checked off.

and above, me in a blues bar in Memphis.

so on his birthday, here's to you Elvis...

and being something a mother and her daughter can share always.

PS. i will be back tomorrow with my ENGAGEMENT story!!! (still smiling) but for now, i had to post about Elvis.

my future husbie is about to be home and I've missed him! (I've missed you too, of course!) a HUGE thank-you kiss to my bestie for doing a WONDERFUL job of keeping you company while i was away. Her post announcing my special news meant the world to me. Thank-you dearest M! i love you!!!

& thanks to everyone for your well wishes. xo's!

Hi Micaela! First, thanks for stopping by my blog! Second, welcome to Lynchburg! Hmmm, as far as hot spots around here, I'm not sure what to tell you, but since you like antique shops, I would suggest Estate Specialists downtown. They pretty much have everything you could ever want! I go there way too much, to the point one of the ladies knows of all the sewing projects I'm working on! There is usually something going on downtown, so it's a good place to start. Also, this may sound weird, but the Old City Cemetery is a good place to go in the spring or summer. It's a nice place to walk, smell the flowers, swing on the giant tree swing, sit by the pond, etc. It's nice to "meet" a local blogger!

I just found your blog and it's very nice. I have a daughter named Micaela. I was also a big fan of Elvis, and I've passed that on to my daughters too.
Blessings,
Marcia

You should go to Nashville too - so much Elvis stuff. I think that this bond you have with your mother surrounding this wonderful man's music is just fantastic. Love this post <3

Danielle, thanks for those suggestions!!! I will be sure to check those sites out. I fell in love with the Historic downtown, the craft market where they have that filipino food place (i'm half filipino so it felt like home already) and hand made goodies. I will have to check out Estate Specialists. It's nice to "meet" you too! keep in touch and let me know if there's anything esp. fabulous going on :) THANK YOU!!!!

Marcia, pleasure to have you here. i can't wait to check out your little corner of the internet. Your daughter has a great name ;)

Erin, i've missed you all! i can't wait to catch up on your life. xo
