Laurie and Jo.

our Saturday morning was spent at a used book store, Bookshop on the Avenue.

i immediately went to the classics section where i found this treasure. $3. I couldn't believe it.

{when i was little, i would pretend i was Jo &
my twinkie; nurturing & lovely Beth.}

inside was a sticker that said "Do Not Open Till Xmas." [pictured] On the other page in a little girl's cursive is, "Roses are red, violets are blue, candy is sweet and so are you."

don't you just love these kept memories between the pages of an old book?

"Jo was alone in the twilight, lying on the old sofa, looking at the fire, and thinking. It was her favorite way of spending the hour at dusk; no one disturbed her, and she used to lie there on Beth's little red pillow, planning stories, dreaming dreams, or thinking tender thoughts of the sister who never seemed far away."

-Chapter XLIII

M, you would love this place. I found easily ten things to get for your collection.

ps. Thank you for consoling me on the phone today. I love our chit chats.

I love the used bookstore! And I adore Little Women... Especially Jo. Though I was always a little bit sad that she didn't end up with Laurie. I once found an old set of the Anne of Green Gables series at a used book sale, and scooped them all up. Bliss!

Sorry you needed consoling. Are you feeling homesick? Thank goodness for phone calls with friends to cheer you up!

I haven't read little women. I tried reading it when I was young but left it halfway. And never got back to it. Is it sad or what?

I found an original copy of Little Women several years ago in an old book store in Pasadena. It had a "Merry Christmas" inscription written in it and I can just imagine the little girl who received the book curled up with it for hours. Such a sweet image.

I always love getting an old book that has someone's name or hadwritten ote in it! My dad recently got me a set of four bird books from 1942 with an insription saying, "To Poppie, Love Mommie." I like to imagine the people who once owned them!

Also, I just love the musty old smell of books older than my parents!

M, you GET me. You're my person. Like when we were "watching" Grey's together and that conversation between Meredith & Christina. Made me giggle, SO US. i love you and i'm sticking with my original decision. xoxo

Erin, COMPLETELY sad for that ending. And really, can you imagine if how it did happen to end up, ended up to you in real life? (i'm trying not to ruin it for those who haven't read it or know this classic. lol READ IT if you haven't, or save it as your Christmas tradition) Anne of Green Gables- I can just imagine your joy upon finding that treasure. I am homesick but this was something a bit different... will tell you in my reply letter. I had to call M right away and poor thing, she got the brunt of it before i could think it out straight lol yes, thank God for phone calls to friends who get you & cheer you up!

Kassi- SO GLAD we've formally met ;) and ya, the boobies. There's that. lol

Nahl, get back to it! and i can't tell you if it's sad, that would ruin some of it but i guess you have an idea now lol

Tuesdai, I WISH there was!!! wouldn't that be lovely? but of course i went thru it and didn't find anything more. LOL

Sarah- "i've read little women so many times it's like an old friend." that's just perfection there.

Renee, i thought of that too, wondering about the little girl who wrote the rhyme in her book. Btw, Pasadena- my blessed Granddaddy lived there and it's a part of my childhood i miss. Him, the sun, and the Joshua Trees.

Danielle, wow 1942. I actually saw a poetry book you would have been enamored with and would have laughed when you saw the title and understood why. I almost did get it to send but thought you might have thought i was weird... actually, i may have to just send it anyway , it's PERFECT. i hope it's still there. Consider it a thanks for hosting the Knick Knack Exchange. I know how hard it is to do a swap.

Elizabeth Denise, if you go let me know what treasures you find. :)
