so the film version of the book that was so much like my heart. *no spoilers!

i was so excited to see Eat Pray Love on opening night. They could not have picked a better person to play Elizabeth Gilbert (or the medicine man).

i went knowing that it wouldn't compare to Gilbert's words that powerfully described raw emotion and heartache and for that, i'm so glad i read the book first.

all i will say (since some of you haven't seen it yet or if you're like my twinkie- in the middle of reading it) is that the film added and mixed some things that to me, didn't seem necessary.

but oh, it still made my heart hurt remembering why it impacted my life - because i have been there.

"This is a good sign, having a broken heart. It means we have tried for something. "

Mr. Penelope Cruz? beautiful. beautiful. beautiful!

as i do with all my current celeb obsessions, i poured over countless images of Javier Bardem but the one i loved the most wasn't a magazine shot.

it was this candid moment with his new wife (and my girlfriend- my forever girl crush).

Oooh, you. I cried so bad! When she was "forgiving herself" and she was dancing with her husband. When she was crying on the bathroom floor. & I don't remember when else but I loved when she said "I don't have to love you to prove that I love myself" or however it is she said it. Loved the book AND loved the movie which is rare. The things they changed didn't take away from the original too much in my opinion. Loved Julia Roberts. I knew she wouldn't disappoint. ;)

Taco carnitas. Yum.

yes! that part did make me cry and hurt my heart the worse (the dance scene)

okay my biggest problem? lol the email from david... he didn't call her sad remember? he emailed her happy with her decision and in the movie it made it seem like she had all the power.

and even her husband... the movie made it seem like he was such a loser? for wanting her still.

that said.. YES. julia was beautiful and no one could have played her better. Her crying was so real.

Yay! This means it's out! And that maybe just maybe it will be playing in Santiago when we go up (finally!) next week! I loved this book so much too. Happened at the perfect time for me, as it sure sounds like it did for you.

So much love and openness in your links as well. Makes me feel exactly that. Love.

I can't wait for Marianne to finish the book, so we can go see the movie! I KNOW I'll have to take a box of Kleenex. I'm such a cry baby at movies. haha. I'm glad you loved it! I was afriad it wouldn't live up to the book.

OH Javier... even though he is NOTHING like the real "Felipe" he was sooooo dreamy and perfect in the movie!!!

I was disappointed. :( I'd waited so long to see this movie, and loved the book so much.. and then I realized there's no way you can put that kind of understanding in a movie, especially in the way Glibert writes. Julia did a great job, and was a perfect pick.. but there were things (as in Felipe's life) that they changed that I was just really unsatisfied with. Javier was PERFECT as Felipe though, even if they changed a bit of his story around. I just read one of your comments about the e-mail and with her husband, how they make it seem as if she has all the power, and they did that with Felipe, too. I'm not sure if they mean to make it as if it is more empowering to women, but it just kinds of make her... unlikable?? Yes, she broke her husband's heart, but he was.. angrier in the book? Not so whining. And I know Billy Crudup can do angry, so, yeah that's another part that I'm confused with.

Have you read Committed? It's like.. 3rd or 4th on my TO READ NEXT list.

that's such a cute picture of them lying out reading their books. :)

April, thank you for getting me! lol

and YES! I read "Committed" last month when i was home in Texas before the rest of my family came in... Didn't compare to EPL but thought-provoking and under the pretenses of "marriage for a skeptic"- perfect for me right? jk

and YES- i agree with what you said about making her more likeable to women but it was so on the verge of "unlikable"- exactly! even though the dance scene with her husband made me cry- it was so much sweeter in how she felt and what she said in the book.

APRIL, YOU GET MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY! lol
